Re-cycling electrical and electronic products

What is WEEE?

A new government regulation called Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) came into force last year. The aim of this regulation is to minimise the disposal of WEEE products as unsorted waste and increase the rate of treatment, recovery and environmentally sound disposal of these products.

What is a WEEE product?

Any electrical or electronic consumer product that plugs into the mains or uses batteries.

Why do we need WEEE recycling?

Currently over 75% of WEEE products are disposed of in land-fill sites. Toxins from these products can leach into the soil and water causing pollution and harm to the environment, wildlife and human health.

How can I recycle my old electrical/ electronic goods?

  1. Your local council re-cycling centre will have facilities to take your old WEEE items for safe disposal and recycling.
  2. Retailers also offer a “new for old” scheme. For example Frogpool Manor will accept your old horse & dog clippers/ trimmers or electric fencing units for safe disposal when you purchase a similar new item from us.

What does the crossed out wheelie bin logo mean?

WEEE Wheelie Bin LogoAll new EEE (products or packaging) should now be marked with the crossed out wheeled bin symbol. This symbol is intended to remind householders to separate their WEEE and dispose of it in a responsible manner and separately from other household waste.
